New Officers Hired
Two new probationary police patrolmen were officially sworn during the annual reorganization meeting.
Michael DeSimone and Nicholas Brunetti will be the newest members of the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department once they complete their police training this year.
Both DeSimone and Brunetti were joined by family members as they were sworn in by Mayor Rose Heck. The two now enter police training until the middle of June, after which they will begin their training in the department, according to Police Chief Michael Colaneri.
The addition of the two officers will keep the department at 29 members, said Mayor Rose Heck. Three high ranking officers retired last year, Lt. Thomas Archer after 26 years, Lt. Thomas Tozzi and Captain Jack Delorenzo, both after 25 years reported Police Commissioner Justin DiPisa.
The hiring process for the new officers began late in 2012 with more than 50 local residents taking part in the police exam, said DiPisa.
Members of the Hasbrouck Heights Volunteer Fire Department were also sworn in during the reorganization meeting. Fire Chief Richard Giarattana and First Assistant Fire Chief Pat Hayes were joined by several members of the department taking the oath administered by Mayor Rose Heck.
“These are the men and women who really are guardians of our lives and homes, and our possessions and we appreciate what you do 365 days of the year,” Mayor Rose Heck told all upon swearing in the officers for the 2013 year.
